They implemented a nationwide logging ban, relocated thousands of people from core panda habitats, and planted vast corridors of bamboo to reconnect fragmented populations. Researchers monitored pandas using GPS collars and camera traps. The strategy addressed every threat simultaneously: habitat loss, food scarcity, and genetic isolation. By 2021, the wild panda population had risen to 1,864 individuals. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) officially reclassified giant pandas from "endangered" to "vulnerable." While climate change and human activity remain ongoing threats, China's bamboo forests have proven that determined conservation efforts can reverse even the most dire predictions.
